The 30-Minute Monthly Money Check-In
Money problems grow in the dark. A short, regular check-in keeps small issues small and keeps you pointed at the life you are building.
Put it on the calendar
Pick the same day each month, like the first Sunday, and protect 30 minutes. If you share finances with a partner, do it together. Bring your statements, your spending plan, and something to drink. Keep it calm. This is a planning meeting, not a blame session.
Minutes 1 to 10: look back
- What came in and what went out?
- Where did you stick to the plan, and where did you drift?
- Did anything surprise you?
Minutes 10 to 20: check your progress
- How much is in your emergency fund?
- What is the total balance on each debt, and is it moving down?
- Are any bills, renewals, or annual costs coming up in the next two months?
Minutes 20 to 30: plan the next month
Build next month's spending plan using what you just learned. Choose one small improvement to focus on, not ten. One change you actually make is worth more than a long list you forget.
Celebrate progress
Every month you check in, you know more than you did before. Notice the debt that went down, the savings that went up, and the bill you caught early. Progress you can see is progress you will keep making.
